India's 'Airavat' included in supercomputing list

Top 500 global supercomputing list was recently announced at the 61st International Supercomputing Conference (ISC 2023) in Germany.

• During this time India's technical prowess achieved a significant milestone

* Because in this India's artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer 'AIRAWAT' secured the 75th position in the prestigious Top 500 Global Supercomputing list

• It has been set up at C-DAC Pune

This system has been set up by the Government of India under the National Program on Al

• Here AIRAWAT is an acronym for 'AI Research Analytics and Knowledge Assimilation Platform'.

• Airavat, the largest and fastest AI computing system in India

• Its design is in line with the recommendations of the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (NSAI)

• Its peak compute capability is 13 petaflops

What is Top 500 list?

> It lists the 500 fastest computer systems currently in use

> These are the 500 most powerful computer systems installed worldwide > The first edition of the Top 500 list was launched in 1993

What is super computer?

> It can do high level processing at a faster rate than a normal computer

> They are characterized by fast speed and memory.

> Their working capacity is much higher than that of a normal computer.

> Such computers are mainly used in such tasks which require very high speed calculations like scientific research work, complex engineering work etc.
